Afternoon Tea

Get out your bucket list – I’ve got something to add: Afternoon Tea.

It’s not just tea. It’s not even just a dainty and refined meal…it’s an experience.

For weeks I’ve been looking forward to my friend Erin’s afternoon tea bridal shower at the Saint Paul Hotel. Things that I was anticipating after scouring the Internet beforehand: pretty antique tea sets, ladies with hats, scones.

There were no hats, but the hotel lobby where we dined was abuzz with activity – a pianist on the baby grand, multiple bridal parties in black tie, and a waitress stopping by to top off our teacups every five minutes.

We relished an array of tiny and delicious bites over five courses and two hours. Some of my favorites: Vichyssoise (cold potato) soup, saffron arancini, and yes, scones with orange honey butter.

The afternoon was lovely. It felt a little like being transported to another time and place, which is pretty cool. The pace of the ritual lets you take your time to enjoy the tea, the food, and most of all the people you came with.

Congrats Erin, can’t wait to boogie down at your wedding next weekend!

Until We Eat Again,
Two Happy Cooks
