My mother-in-law Leanne is the real deal. When we go visit for the holidays, she pulls out all the stops and cooks amazing (AMAZING) dinners Every. Single. Night. She’s unstoppable! I learn so much from watching Leanne do her thing… all I can do to express my gratitude is try to “help” with the prep and do dishes after dinner when she lets me.
The planning that goes into this each year is astounding. We’re talking spreadsheets, lists, and BIG shopping trips. One year before the holidays, we each got to vote on our top dinner choices from 16 menu options – she made the six with the most votes. Here is a shot of Tom with this year’s grocery receipt:
Below is our menu from this year – each dish was more delicious than the last. Some of these recipes came from Leanne’s brain or the Hearne Family Cookbook which Mike digitized last year – if you’d like access to either, let us know and we can get it for you. Oh, and for the record: let it be stated that Tom beat Mike in the annual cribbage showdown – final game count was 6 to 4 or 7 to 4, Mike “can’t remember.”
Sunday: Caprese, Ina Garten’s Filet of Beef Bourguignon, Roasted Potatoes and Butternut Squash
Tuesday: Balsamic Roasted Beet Salad, Roasted Leg of Lamb, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Au Gratin Potatoes
Thursday: Spaghetti with Homemade Meat Sauce, Garlic Bread
(Sorry! Was too hungry to snap a picture. It was beautiful and delicious – as Leanne says, “nothing says family like spaghetti.”)
Friday: Swedish Meatballs, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans with Dijon Sauce
Wishing you a happy holidays!
Until We Eat Again,
Two Happy Cooks
