2022 Recipe of the Year: Go with the Flow Brownies

If there’s one thing we’ve been working on this year, it’s to Go with the Flow.

It was a Friday night at 6:30. We had just returned home from dinner at El Mar, our favorite neighborhood New York style by the slice pizza joint. Mike was invited to join the 8 p.m. neighborhood poker game and decided last minute it would be nice to bring something to share.

Mike has always been a brownie guy. We didn’t have any mixes so looked for the simplest brownie recipe we could find with what we could make on hand. We went with the flow and tried this recipe.

It turns out that by chance, we found THE brownie recipe of all brownie recipes. We have made them several times since then and they will be a staple in the Hearne family cookbook for ever more.

2022 brought lots of good things for our family. Mike started a new job at Be the Match that he really enjoys. I continue to love my job leading the website teams at General Mills and had the amazing opportunity to visit India this fall where the phrase Go with the Flow took on even more meaning. I teach Kindergarten at Bet Shalom every Sunday morning and am working to figure out the next steps for Looking Glass Books.

It’s amazing to watch Sam and Hannah grow and learn more every day at school. Sam enjoys building and creating, robotics, cooking, is learning the Rubix cube and hopes to start basketball soon. Hannah loves art and play dough, creating scenes with her Barbie’s and changing their clothes, swimming and hopes to start ice skating soon.

Life isn’t perfect. Trips and parties have been cancelled due to the tripledemic, we all overcome obstacles daily and as I write this Sam is home two hours early due to 6 inches of snow. We’re all working on our flexibility and I’m finding that life is better when we Go with the Flow.
